In recent days, during the negotiation of a monstrous financial bailout plan, the House Republicans have worked to add language to protect the American taxpayer. Ironically, Barack Obama, in speeches today and yesterday, has attempted to take credit for the work of the Republicans. With a complicit media, he has been given that undue credit.

Protection of the taxpayer is not a new idea for House Republicans. It may be a good time to look back at another time House Republicans attempted to intercede on behalf of taxpayers and the middle class.

In 1994, Republicans in the House of Representatives made it a goal to pass major reforms to benefit taxpayers. It is the responsibility of Republicans to remind Americans of what occurred that year.  Here is the text of their Contract with America (from newt.org)

 

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;

SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;

THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;

FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;

FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;

SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;

SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;

EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.

Thereafter, within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress, we shall bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny.

THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT
A balanced budget/tax limitation amendment and a legislative line-item veto to restore fiscal responsibility to an out-of-control Congress, requiring them to live under the same budget constraints as families and businesses.

THE TAKING BACK OUR STREETS ACT
An anti-crime package including stronger truth-in-sentencing, "good faith" exclusionary rule exemptions, effective death penalty provisions, and cuts in social spending for this summer’s "crime" bill to fund prison construction and additional law enforcement to keep people secure in their neighborhoods and kids safe in their schools.

THE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT
Discourage illegitimacy and teen pregnancy by prohibiting welfare to minor mothers and denying increased AFDC for additional children while on welfare, cut spending for welfare programs, and enact a tough two-years-and-out provision with work requirements to promote individual responsibility.

THE FAMILY REINFORCEMENT ACT
Child support enforcement, tax incentives for adoption, strengthening rights of parents in their children’s education, stronger child pornography laws, and an elderly dependent care tax credit to reinforce the central role of families in American society.

THE AMERICAN DREAM RESTORATION ACT
A $500 per child tax credit, begin repeal of the marriage tax penalty, and creation of American Dream Savings Accounts to provide middle class tax relief.

THE NATIONAL SECURITY RESTORATION ACT
No U.S. troops under U.N. command and restoration of the essential parts of our national security funding to strengthen our national defense and maintain our credibility around the world.

THE SENIOR CITIZENS FAIRNESS ACT
Raise the Social Security earnings limit, which currently forces seniors out of the work force, repeal the 1993 tax hikes on Social Security benefits and provide tax incentives for private long-term care insurance to let Older Americans keep more of what they have earned over the years.

THE JOB CREATION AND WAGE ENHANCEMENT ACT
Small business incentives, capital gains cuts and indexation, neutral cost recovery, risk assessment/cost-benefit analysis, strengthening the Regulatory Flexibility Act and unfunded mandate reform to create jobs and raise worker wages.

THE COMMON SENSE LEGAL REFORM ACT
"Loser pays" laws, reasonable limits on punitive damages and reform of product liability laws to stem the endless tide of litigation.

THE CITIZEN LEGISLATURE ACT
A first-ever vote on term limits to replace career politicians with citizen

We’ve learned, in the past 72 hours, that members of the Democratic leadership are willing to engage in bald-faced lies. It may not surprise anyone that they are politicians and their lies are politically motivated; but lies are lies.

We have learned one important lesson back in 2006 and again in the weeks just past; the Democrats will do or say anything to regain power. Unfortunately, this worked in 2006 and now the dems close ties to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have handed us a national crisis.

So what are the ‘lies’ I’m referring to?  The emergency meeting that just occurred at the Whitehouse included both presidential candidates, the leadership of both parties, the treasury secretary and the president.

Many details had already been worked out between Paulson, Senate and House Democrats and the President while House Republicans want more assurances for the taxpayer, who is footing the bill for the bailout. What actually happened inside this emergency meeting and how the Democrats are framing it are two different things.

Sources inside the meeting said that the opening remarks were made by Barack Obama who accused House Republicans of holding up the bill based on several false premises. Obama, on the campaign trail, did not have accurate information about what was actually occurring in the House.

What the House Republicans are exposing is that the Democratic Party is now the party of big business and the Republicans are the proponents of the taxpayer.

With regard to the first debate, I believe this excerpt from an article from FoxNews points out the strategy of the Democratic operative who moderated it, although they don’t point out that fact………..

‘The face-off was meant to focus on foreign policy, ostensibly giving the Republican presidential nominee a platform to highlight his decades of experience on the world stage. But with the current economic crisis confounding lawmakers on Capitol Hill, moderator Jim Lehrer kept the candidates on the economy for the first 40 minutes. Obama accused his rival of wanting to follow “the policies of President Bush” by giving massive tax cuts to the wealthiest corporations.“You voted for almost all of (Bush’s) budgets,” Obama said. “To stand here after almost eight years and say you’re gonna lead on controlling spending … I think is just kind of hard to swallow’.

This is just more of the slimeball tactics of the Democrats and their surrogates in the media. Republicans really need to say ‘screw you guys; we’re going to choose a non-partisan and not let liberals determine the line of questioning.’ 

The usual pattern follows-liberal Democrats moderate and manipulate the debates, they make their candidate look like the winner and then their operatives in the media publish thousands of stories to this end in their papers the next morning. In the mainstream media, the Republican never wins a single debate.

Democrats use the same tactic during debates with support from their colleagues in the press.  They make wild, unfounded accusations during the debate.  The Republican has to spend time to contradict the falsehoods.  The moderator never challenges the Democrat.  The next morning, the liberal newspapers and newscasts restate the Democrats falsehoods as it fact.

We really need another national party to replace the current Democratic leadership. As a country, we would be better off just eliminating the Democratic Party and their gutter tactics, smear campaigns and erroneous philosophies.

In the process, I would like to eliminate the Republican Party also, based on recent performance and straying from true conservativism, and replace them with a true Conservative Party. The Dems should be replaced with the Democratic Party of old.
