It’s time to rally around John McCain

It’s time to rally around John McCain

We know who will be facing off in the general election now and it’s time to rally around Sen. John McCain.  Senator McCain has really ticked me off at times. I have been in contact with his office on more than one occasion and the response I have received has not been what I wanted.

I am a conservative and a Republican and Sen. McCain does not walk in lock-step with others of my beliefs.  As a matter of fact, he does not walk in lock-step with anyone. And that is why we need him in the White House.

There are few politicians who can claim that people of all ideologies are among their true constituents.  John McCain stands out as a rare exception. He has worked together with some of the most liberal members of the Senate to write legislation. To the angst of people like me, he has teamed up with those on the other side of the aisle to get things done.

We really need someone as president who represents the largest cross-section of Americans. McCain is a man of the people.

Often called a maverick and often a thorn in the side of conservative Republicans, John McCain has endured tests of his character that few Americans can even imagine. He has been humble about those experiences, although he showed true heroism in the face of despair.

His opponent for the Oval Office has a voting record that one non-partisan record keeping organization called the most liberal in the United States Senate.  His opponent has no history of reaching across the aisle to work with people of different viewpoints. His opponent has never faced character building adversity that would challenge a humans own will to live.

We have had few opportunities to vote for a person like John McCain for the highest office in the land. He has made himself available to reporters like few politicians. He has developed very real friendships with members of the other party. He has even worked to remove the worst forms of corruption from Washington politics. All the while, he has been gracious and shown a sense of humor and humility.

Although he has not always been willing to take up my conservative causes, he and his office have taken the time to answer my concerns.

He has survived torture and skin cancer and lived to campaign hard from one coast to the other.  I only wish I had his stamina.

In November we will be faced with a choice. Vote for the new guy on the block who lacks experience but presents himself well in front of a crowd. Or, we can vote for the guy who allows his mind to explore other viewpoints, does not get caught up in ideology and represents the interests of all Americans.

It’s time to rally around John McCain. America deserves him and he will be good for America
