Who’s facts do you listen too?
I couldn’t help but notice a poll result quoted on the FoxNews website. It came from the poll tallies that the Real Clear Politics people publish based on multiple national polls. The question was; ‘What do you feel is the direction of the country?’
Based on recent poll results from AP-Ipsos, Gallup and Newsweek, 64.3% of the Americans polled feel the country is headed in the ‘wrong direction.’ I would submit to you that this is proof, yes powerful evidence of the influence of the mainstream media on the majority of Americans.
Consider where we are in the country today. We have just seen the DOW hit two new highs this past week. This enormous run up in equities has a positive effect on the middle class, with increases in values of 401(k) plans and IRA’s. This translates to real dollars and cents that will benefit those saving for retirement. The same people who are excited to see big gains in their retirement savings every quarter, are at a loss to convey their excitement to the direction of the country for one reason. They are listening to the mainstream media and the message they are hearing is that things are real bad. Do they compare and contrast what they are seeing on their financial statements with what they see on their TV screen? Obviously not.
Then there is the low unemployment figure; 4.6% currently, which is up slightly, but historically low. Where is the mainstream media when it comes to highlighting this positive side of our country and economy? Their no where in sight, and this is an outstanding rate amongst industrialized countries………just look at Europe where you still find double digit unemployment.
The mainstream media either distorts reality or ignores it. What ever suites the democratic leadership. This is reflected in national polls where the future of the country is not measured by facts, but rather by the incessant negative brain-washing that comes to us by way of television, radio, newspaper and magazines.
We learned this past November that a majority of Americans will glean all of their ‘facts’ from these types of news sources. They will not look at their retirement plan statement or take note of real labor statistics.
As the ’08 Presidential races swing into full gear, lets see if the same media brain-washing machine gets any of the distasteful facts straight about the democratic candidates. It’s like my wife remarked when I told her about John Edwards new 29,000 square foot mansion………………”let’s see if he invites some poor people to live in the extra rooms.” Not a chance, but of course, he is the candidate of the low-income and repressed. He can relate to them. You can be sure that the mainstream media will continue to promote Edwards as someone who suffers daily with the poor. This will be the picture the media paints, while never mentioning the house.
