Showing their true colors

The new Democratic leadership wasted no time showing their true colors.  In keeping with their denial that we can win in Iraq, they are resisting any opportunity to bring the hostilities to an end in our favor.  The plan to use a ‘blitz’ to bring the insurgents to their proverbial knees is being stymied by the Democrats need to leave the Iraqis high and dry.

In a tersely worded letter to the President, new majority leader Harry Reid and House speaker Nancy Pelosi warn the President not to add troops to Iraq to overturn the insurgency there.  In the letter, they claim to have consulted with military ‘experts’.  Using the opinions of these experts, the letter states;  ”They, like us, believe there is no purely military solution in Iraq. There is only a political solution.”

Keep in mind that the dominant problem in Iraq is the influx of terrorists into the country and the terrorists, who are Saddam supporters, already there.  You can have no political solution with terrorists.  There is no sitting down at a conference table and hashing out your differences.  They understand only force.  The new Democratic leadership is completely blind to this common sense.  They risk another Viet Nam.

Prior to winning the speakership, congresswoman Pelosi promised a new spirit of bi-partisan cooperation when the Dems took power.  The letter sent to the President is one of the first indications that she is full of crap.  Her political rhetoric prior to taking power should be an indication of the failure of political solutions.  There will be none in sight from now until the next election.

There is likely an additional strategy behind the subject letter.  The Democrats have shown no conscious in getting covert information and using it to their advantage.  Some of the suggestions in their letter may have been part of the Presidents own strategy.  Now that they have made public the requirements they have for a new strategy in Iraq, ahead of the President’s speech on the subject this coming Wednesday, it creates and appearance that the President is bowing to their demands and they take the credit.

The agenda of the new Democratic congressional leadership will be as I have written about previously.  It will embrace the agenda of the extreme left.  That is where the money trail leads, and money is the root of all evil and of all Democratic decisions.  What is designed to appear centrist will be anything but as time moves forward.  I can predict this with a confidence that stems from witnessing too many liberal think-tank decisions.

The visceral hatred that the extreme left has for the President will rear its ugly head time and again.  Allowing him to serve out his term, without impeachment proceedings is part of a strategy similar to allowing a race horse with a badly injured leg to be led to the track again.   The Democrats see shooting the horse and putting it out of its misery too humane.  They prefer a painful limp over an extended time as a means to reinforce their bid for the White House in ’08.

As the President attempts to build a bridge to the left, and also to do what is best for the country, he will be blindsided time and again by the new powerbrokers in the congress.

Wave good bye to ’06 with all its faults

In church yesterday morning, an announcement was made that a gentleman and his family who used to attend the church, and subsequently moved, needed the prayers of all who were there.  Apparently, just the day before, the husband and dad in the family died suddenly of a heart attack; he was 40.

Life can end at any time…………….it’s a fact of life.  That said………in a new year, we are reminded that we should make the most of every day, and spend quality time with those who mean the most.  Most Americans will ignore this sage advice and continue on the road that was re-paved in 2006.

Popular culture will win the priority battle for large numbers of Americans, leaving the really important things in life by the wayside.  We will be focused on Rosie O’ Donnell and Donald Trump and Beyonce and Tom Cruise and lose sight of those things that most impact the quality of our lives.  This will not be the case with all Americans, but unfortunately, it is true of too many.

With the turnover in the congress and a new power structure in place for the new year in Washington, pop culture will once again rule the day.  Liberals tend to put more emphasis on the importance of popular culture and its current batch of heroes and heroines.  The relationship between Washington and Hollywood will gain strength and renewal in 2007 as movie making activists and liberal politician’s team up to distort the facts and obscure the importance of those who pretend on film.

Expect more Bush bashing in 2007 along with a push for America to surrender to terrorists.  In addition, you can expect a green light and green card to the millions of aliens in the U.S. illegally.  You can expect a renewed emphasis on welfare over workfare.  Look for more institutionalized bigotry against Christians to run concurrently with a more aggressive agenda to promote gay marriage.  The ‘progressive’ agenda of the far left will be everywhere you look.  Any suggestion of the true intentions of the founding fathers will be further squashed.

A few days ago, I was listening to a liberal radio call-in show.   That morning, I turned on the radio to a station we listen to for local news.  The talk show was on, and the subject was whether or not we should execute Saddam Hussein, and whether capital punishment should be practiced at all.  Caller after caller disagreed with any notion of hanging Saddam and voiced their doubts that he was even as bad as suggested by conservatives.

The talk shows momentum was swinging in the direction that the host enjoyed until one caller, a former Iraqi called in.  The caller stated that he knew with certainty that in one day alone, Saddam Hussein ordered the murder of 15,000 people……….in just one day.  The caller recounted that almost none of his old school classmates were still alive.  He was emphatic that Saddam must die and it was most certainly the right thing.  The talk show host was stymied.  This call was not according to plan, and here in the midst of all the American callers, was someone who actually lived under Saddam Hussein’s regime.  Two days later, Saddam Hussein swung from the gallows.  Liberals just don’t get it.

In 2006, America saw no terrorist attacks on its soil.  In the final hours of the year, a tyrannical dictator met his just end and the war of words over the war continued.  Also, in the final hours of the year, a famous entertainer passed on and a former President died at 93.  The end of the year seemed to eclipse the rest of the year.  America also saw record levels in the stock market and unemployment figures were kept at historic lows. The housing market, although slower than 2005, was still historically robust with mortgage rates under 6.5%.  Americans salaries even increased.  All this was ignored by the main stream media, who sought instead to define the year as one of hardship and uncertainty.

Will the country become better in 2007?  It is very unlikely.  A powerful consortium of far left wing financiers and pitchmen will attempt to hijack our culture, institutions and priorities in 2007.  To a large degree, they will succeed.  The press will focus on accomplishments and improvements made by the Democratic congress and will immortalize every decision made by every new committee head.   The country will be forcibly moved to the left while conservative thought and ideas will be snuffed out at every turn; all in preparation for 2008.

What’s important in life is family and friends, morals and ethics, and remembering that we were created and being thankful every day.  We live in a free society that gives us unlimited opportunity if we decide to accept it.

In the new year, all who believe in real priorities need to fight to keep those things from being replaced by that which is unimportant.  The country will suffer in 2007 if this is ignored.  When the dad and father I mentioned earlier died at age 40,  his family was reminded that pop culture and Rosie O’ Donnell and global warming mean very little.  They only remember the last moments they spent with him.

This past November we elected to put a number of liberals in charge of our country.  We may have lost sight of what’s important and allowed pop culture and the news media to dictate our decisions.  2007 will reveal the results of this decision and will test our belief systems and convictions.  Every moment that we depart from those things that are really important is a moment lost.
