Real Science vs. Pseudo-science

When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next issue of Popular Mechanics.  Every article was interesting, the illustrations were interesting and I actually learned something about the technology of the time, or the technology of the future.  It was the kind of thing that ignited the imagination.

After the 9/11 attack, there were scores of people who had their imaginations ignited also.  The problem was, that unlike the content in Popular Mechanics, which was based on real science, these people were creating a science that was self-serving and without real merit.  Their science supported a hypothesis that the U.S. government was behind the 9/11 attacks, not Islamo-fascists.

Some of the theories that were given rise after the devastation in 2001 included speculation that the World Trade Center towers were pre-wired with explosives, that the military used drones or missiles to attack the Pentagon and towers, that jet fuel could not burn hot enough to melt girders and that the fire could not have caused the towers to collapse.  Popular Mechanics investigated all of these theories in an article they wrote in the March 2005 issue.  They found that the conspiracy theorists and conjecturers were basing their assertions and theories on a false set of facts.

In his well written forward to the new book; Debunking 9/11 Myths, Senator John McCain states,  “Popular Mechanics stands for an old-fashioned approach to facts. It relies on reporting, evidence, and eyewitnesses, and rejects speculation, falsehoods, and conspiracy.”

Much, if not most, of the 9/11 conspiracy theories come out of the same camp of Bush-haters as other unsubstantiated theories about oil riches, closed-door corporate deals, payola and greed.  All of these theories have been proven false or without factual basis, yet like an unchecked malignant disease, have flourished.  Throughout the internet, blogosphere, mainstream media and gossip/rumor mill, the conspiracy theories have fed upon themselves until they have reached a magnitude that should be reserved only for factual arguments.

Real science and research has stepped into the controversy to fill the void of pseudo-science with real science.  Popular Mechanics did extensive research to investigate every claim of a cover-up, as well as every mechanical/structural engineering claim and every claim that purported anything else but commercial jets as the catalyst for destruction.

Mr. Terrorist, I like you

Liberal newsman, Mike Wallace of 60 minutes fame, proved once again that the left in the U.S. worships the ground that terrorists walk on.   Dementia aside, Mr. Wallace fed the terrorist leader of Iran set-up line after set-up line.   He seemed to glory in the presence of Mr. Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president who declared the destruction of the U.S. and Israel would serve the world good.  No doubt liberals in the U.S. agree with this premise.

Liberals throughout the blogosphere are fascinated by Mr. Ahmadinejad, a true hero of theirs. (see here and here and here and here)

Per Mike Wallace about the man who wants to wipe Israel and the United States off the face of the earth…….

“You’ll find him an interesting man,” he said. “I expected more of a firebrand. I don’t think he has the slightest doubt about how he feels … about the American administration and the Zionist state. He comes across as more rational than I had expected.”  “He wasn’t a raving lunatic, like I expected! He was calm! Rational! Even Charming.”

One of the best known of the liberal media thinks the president of Iran is “charming.”  How nice.  Lets look at some quotes of Mr. Ahmadinejad:

“the wave of the Islamic revolution will soon reach the entire world.”  (is it just me, or does this sound like something Mr. Hitler would have said?)

About the Holocaust, he said “they have invented a myth that Jews were massacred”

Regarding the forward movement of Iran’s nuclear program, “a flood which cannot be stopped by a match stick.”

In a speech before the Islamic Students Association, Israel should be “wiped off the map”

Left wing support of terrorist groups and terrorist leaders bolsters the confidence and propaganda efforts of such groups.  It bolsters the opinion of those in Europe and neutral Middle Eastern countries who are swayed against the U.S. because they see such dissent and anti-Americanism coming from within the U.S.

Mike Wallace did nothing to help in the fight against global terrorism by his advocacy of a terrorist leader.  His softball challenges were heartless.  He should have retired years ago.  Instead, he gives voice to those who hate us.Â
