Wait a minute……isn’t this America?
An update to my last post on the immigration debate. A highschool student in Apache Junction Arizona was arrested today and put in jail for an incident related to the immigration debate, which hits particularly close to home in places like Arizona. Why was the student arrested? Seems he was a white kid, who was none too happy about some Hispanic students who removed the American flag from the school's flagpole, and raised the Mexican flag in it's place. Gee whiz…………..why get mad? I mean, after all, why be upset when one of the primary symbols of your country is removed and replaced with the symbol of another country?
Apparently, this is what happened……..the Mexican students, who may or may not be here legally, were removing the American flag from the flagpole. Some white students witnessed what they were doing and confronted the Mexicans. A verbal confrontation in-sued, which was broken up by school security. The Mexican flag was left behind, and one of the white kids set it ablaze. He was then summarily arrested.
With this incident and the incident in my last post, two questions come to mind. One is this………….since when are Americans supposed to sit back while folks from another country, not necessarily pro-American, protest in our streets, wave the flag of their country, hold signs that say that their country is the rightful owner of our country, block American's trying to get to work, stop commerce and cost local merchants profits and customers, protest changes to our laws when most of them are violating the law, force our country to adopt their language while many of them never learn our official language and treat every detractor as if they are racist because they may want our borders safe from terrorists? We know political correctness has run amok, but do Americans have to be silenced by those breaking our laws?
My other thought, in recent weeks is this………..if I were to take a few thousand Americans to Mexico City, and wage an anti-Mexico protest, how long would it take before the federales' shot me and my fellow Americans? My guess would be that it might take minutes. Not to mention that common Mexican citizens would suppress the rally and leave the American protestors bloodied or worse. There is no such atmosphere of political correctness in Mexico after all.
If American students went to a Mexican highschool and raised the stars and stripes above the highschool, the result would be the same. So how come an American student sat in jail today because he said enough is enough? Sometimes I think our society has become our own worst enemy. We are the greatest nation on earth because we honor and respect certain rights and privileges, but many are confusing privileges that hail back to our forefathers with privileges that would make our forefathers turn over in their graves.
