The next step in the NSA revelation
The whole NSA data collection issue has gone on too long, kept alive in the press that most Americans listen to and read every day. Although the program has been in existence since the seventies, the revelation that the current administration makes use of its information has been turned into a tale of corruption. Never mind that Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton made use of the program and supported unwarranted data collection. In the press, that revelation has no legs. The target is the Bush administration, and any spin that can be delivered to an unsuspecting public is good propaganda. Now the Democratic Party has devised some new talking points. As if the ‘culture of corruption’ was not enough, the newest spin is that the person who revealed the current use of the NSA program to the NY Times was a ‘whistleblower.’ What a clever and convenient way to characterize those who would leak the country’s security secrets to the press. And now, we might be able to convince the public at large, that the person guilty of violating the law and putting all of us in jeopardy, is indeed a hero. Watch for more of this approach from your local press outlet. It is their job to push the party line after all.
